Hawaiʻi Theater People have: 

* Founded, worked at, and supported arts organizations in Hawaiʻi, on the continental U.S., and around the world

* Educated, nurtured and cultivated local talents 

* Created breathtaking works of art

* Won Tony awards, Chicago "Jeff" Awards, major grants and fellowships, and more

* Innovated, challenged, broadened, and strengthened the field of theater

* Translated and leveraged their theater skills into other work in many sectors outside of theater

Who are Hawaiʻi Theater People?

Please join us in this volunteer-run, consensus organizing effort to identify, count, and build community across the multifaceted spectrum of "Hawaiʻi Theater People." We are seeking theater people on the islands and those in the diaspora, including former theater makers, students, supporters, and their ʻohana.

Why? Because we count. 
Despite the accomplishments of many Hawaiʻi Theater People, the theater sector in Hawaiʻi is thin. Consensus organizing is a type of community organizing designed to build communities of mutual self-interest. This survey is a first step for us to learn about one another and discover the vastness, depth, and fullness of Hawaiʻi Theater People.

This volunteer project was initiated by Seema Sueko (you may direct questions to her using the form here). Many others contributed to shaping and testing this survey: Daniel Akiyama, Donna Blanchard, Nara Mālia Cardenas, Linda Castro, Sean-Joseph Choo, Lynette Chun, Kathleen Collins, Sean Dunnington, Amy Hill, Hannah li-Epstein, Eric Johnson, Monica Lee, Phyllis Look, Gail Lopes, Vijay Matthew, Lin McEwan, Mākena Miller, Kim and Mehana Richmond, Aitofele Steele, and more. Sharing needs and opportunities with one another and working collectively to raise the bar are among the interests and motivations of those who have participated in this survey.

No one owns the information that is surfaced from this survey -- it is for all of us. Everyone who participates and indicates their interest as such will receive a link to the responses, in spreadsheet format, via email from Seema at the end of each month. All participants' names and responses will be shared with one another. The information may be used to surface statistics about Hawaiʻi Theater People, and/or to connect directly with one another if you indicate you are open to that.  Participants may opt to not share any contact information.

We depend on each other to make this organizing effort a success. As a first step, we encourage you to complete this survey and share it with others.
